Topics Discussed
- The Logos tech
- debating the future need for a token
- what makes the Logos stack more private than Signal & alternatives
- prevalent issues in NYC/US:
- immigration: NYC is a highly international place; attendee suggested creating peer-to-peer networks to communicate about ICE
- lack of access to abortion healthcare in the US (especially red states); attendee suggested spreading awareness about initiatives that try to increase accessibility to abortion healthcare (e.g. through special drug-infused cards you can buy/prep: https://fourthievesvinegar.org/microlab/)
- around NYC, stores retain biometric data, such as facial recognition and voiceprints, to enhance security. They have to display a sticker on their windows to inform customers; attendee suggested creating a decentralized database/map of the stores that do / do not retain this data
- giving back freedom to skilled workers & small businesses from banks and the broader, overshadowing financial sector; attendee suggested helping the local workers get funding
- privacy in a post-quantum world - attendee suggested attending the Quantum World Congress
Highlights
Food: set up charcuterie, chips & popcorn, fruits, pastry, drinks (~ 65 USD) on a table – the cat at the place ate the charcuterie, the rest was not eaten much
Distributed Logos flyers from PS & printed
Outcomes
- attendees entered the relevant Signal group chat
- next Circle not planned – TBD on new Steward who can take over
What We Learned / To Improve / New Ideas
-
Things that worked well: coupling event with a bigger ongoing tech week, as part of their scheduling, to attract new people
-
Areas for improvement: keeping people on track with the deliverables (topics did not converge on a winnable issue / clear roles at the end of the event)
-
New ideas or experiments to try next time: choosing and focusing on a specific issue
