A diverse group with strong representation from agriculture and land-based practices, including backgrounds in farm-to-table food systems, bioengineering, and permaculture. The group also included a tech-focused mental health startup founder, a Network School participant, and the Lisbon Technical Steward.

Topics Discussed

Quinta do Mocho Short Film

  • First cut has been completed and received positively, though it currently lacks a strong ending

  • Plan to gather input from community leaders to shape a more impactful narrative

  • Target: first screening in Quinta do Mocho later this month at the community centre

  • If completed in time, a second screening will take place at the 3 June Lisbon Circle

Next steps:

  • Meeting scheduled with Vania (Quinta do Mocho community leader) on Friday to review the film and discuss direction

Quinta do Mocho Community Garden

  • Still awaiting approval from the local freguesia to proceed

  • Niko (with an agricultural and permaculture background) offered to help lead the initiative

  • Plan to begin preparing seedlings in advance for planting once approval is granted

  • Idea proposed to introduce biocomposting in the area, to be discussed further with Vania

Community Food Initiative

  • Jesus (offered) to bring a friend’s food truck to Quinta do Mocho on a monthly basis

  • Aim: provide free hot meals as a community-building initiative

  • Potential for the Circle to fundraise for food supplies

  • Opportunity to involve experienced chefs to collaborate with residents using the community centre’s industrial kitchen

Lisbon Circle Ă— Plural Event (14 May)

  • Preparation underway for the upcoming Plural event

  • GRL from the Porto Circle is supporting the design of the discussion session

  • Batu has submitted an application to the local council to use outdoor space for the event

  • Proposal includes a “green takeover” of the space using plants and reclaimed furniture

  • Best-case scenario: approval to remove sections of concrete during the event

  • A screen has been prepared to enable livestreaming with other Plural events

Next Steps

  • Jesus to join Amelia for the meeting with Vania on Friday

  • Batu to prepare a flyer for the Plural event

  • Amelia and others to organise a flyering session early next week to build local interest

  • Amelia to coordinate content and filming support for the event
