TOPICS DISCUSSED
A major part of the Circle discussion was sharing personal challenges and identifying people within the community who could provide support, skills, resources, or connections.
Examples of connections made:
-
Abdul: Needed a recommendation for a rehabilitation centre. Mohammed offered to assist with finding a suitable recommendation.
-
Shazily: Is building Tenovation Connect and was connected with Sam, who has an existing community that could potentially support the project with resources and documentation.
-
Andas: Also working on Tenovation and looking for funding opportunities. He is also planning a school outreach, which presents an opportunity to potentially collaborate with the Circle on our community initiatives.
-
Grace: Has a volunteer community that connects people with opportunities. We discussed collaborating with the community and potentially providing Logos certificates/recognition to active members who participate meaningfully in Circle activities.
Key Insight:
The Circle is becoming more than a monthly discussion space. Members are beginning to use the community to exchange knowledge, solve problems, make introductions, and connect with opportunities.
Next Steps:
-
Follow up with members on the connections made during the Circle.
-
Explore collaboration with the volunteer community and Tenovation’s school outreach.
-
Document useful resources and connections that can be added to our future community resource bank.
We also continued discussion on the possibility of running a Logos node and the technical requirements involved.
Key Points & Insights:
-
The technical team has already conducted test runs of the node.
-
The team is currently communicating with someone from the Logos technical team on Discord to better understand the setup and requirements.
-
The main blocker at the moment is access to suitable hardware, particularly an older laptop or Raspberry Pi that can be dedicated to running the node.
Next Steps:
-
Continue communication with the Logos technical team on Discord.
-
Identify and secure suitable hardware.
-
Once hardware is available, complete the setup and testing process with support from the technical team.
WINNABLE ISSUES UPDATE
Previous Winnable Issue: ADHD Awareness
Status: Completed / First Winnable Issue
The Lagos Circle successfully completed its first winnable issue through a mini ADHD awareness campaign.
A Circle member volunteered to share their personal experience with ADHD through a video, campaign which was produced and published online. This gave us an opportunity to use storytelling to create awareness, challenge misconceptions, and encourage more open conversations around ADHD.
ADHD Campaign Video: https://youtu.be/-GfA8B8qC4o
This was an important milestone for the Circle because it demonstrated that we can take an issue identified during our meetings and turn it into a practical action with a tangible outcome.
Current Winnable Issue: Knowledge & Resource Bank
Our current winnable issue is to create a knowledge and resource bank that can support:
-
University students preparing to graduate or transition into the workforce.
-
Young people looking for opportunities, skills, mentorship, and practical resources.
-
Early-stage startups and builders looking for funding opportunities.
-
Community members looking for relevant tools, grants, programs, communities, and other useful resources.
The resource bank will ideally become a shared and continuously updated collection that members can contribute to and benefit from.
Potential resources include:
-
Grants and funding opportunities
-
Fellowships and scholarships
-
Internship and job opportunities
-
Startup resources
-
Incubators and accelerators
-
Mentorship programs
-
Learning materials and courses
-
Web3/building resources
-
Communities and networking opportunities
-
Useful tools and documentation
Planned Follow-up:
-
Identify the best format/platform for the resource bank.
-
Begin collecting and organizing resources from Circle members.
-
Create categories to make the resources easy to navigate.
-
Encourage members to contribute opportunities and resources they discover.
-
Explore collaboration with existing communities, including Grace’s volunteer community and Andas’ school outreach network.
-
Assign Circle members responsibility for maintaining different sections of the resource bank.
What Worked Well
-
We successfully completed our first winnable issue, showing that the Circle can turn conversations into real action.
-
Allowing members to share personal challenges created opportunities for direct problem-solving and collaboration.
-
Members were able to connect with one another based on their skills, networks, and resources.
-
The ADHD campaign showed that relatively simple community-led initiatives can create meaningful awareness when members are willing to contribute.
-
The discussion around the Logos node helped identify a practical technical pathway as well as the main hardware blocker.
New Ideas / Experiments
-
Create a Lagos Circle Resource & Knowledge Bank as our current winnable issue.
-
Create a simple member skills/resource directory so Circle members can easily find people who can help with specific problems.
-
Collaborate with Grace’s volunteer community and explore Logos recognition/certificates for active contributors.
-
Explore collaboration with Andas’ planned school outreach to introduce students to useful opportunities and resources.
-
Build a culture where each Circle meeting includes a short “Who needs help?” and “Who can help?” segment.
-
Create a small volunteer team around each winnable issue rather than leaving responsibility with one person.
-
Continue documenting completed initiatives so future Circles can learn from what worked and replicate successful ideas
