The third Logos Circle Kaduna meetup marked a major transition from planning to direct community action. The Circle organized an elderly and widows medical outreach aimed at providing basic healthcare, health education, eye care, medications, and Hepatitis B vaccination to vulnerable members of the community.
Although the Circle received limited financial support from the wider community, members remained committed to the Winnable Issue and came together to make the outreach happen.
The initiative was strengthened through support from the Steward and members of Logos Circle Kano, as well as partnerships with DJFL Foundation, House of Abundance Redeemed Christian Church of God, and Eagle Eye Clinic Kaduna.
Through this collective effort, the Circle was able to serve more than 100 individuals, more than doubling the original target of 50 beneficiaries.
Topics Discussed
1. Hepatitis Awareness & Prevention
The outreach began with an educational session on Hepatitis, focusing particularly on Hepatitis B and C.
Key Points & Insights
Participants were educated on:
What Hepatitis is.
The different types of viral hepatitis.
Modes of transmission.
The importance of testing and knowing one’s status.
Prevention and personal health practices.
The importance of Hepatitis B vaccination.
Why people who test non-reactive should consider completing the recommended vaccination schedule.
The session helped beneficiaries understand that prevention, early detection, and vaccination can play an important role in protecting individuals and their families.
2. Vital Signs & General Health Screening
Following the awareness session, beneficiaries moved through a dedicated screening station where their basic health parameters were assessed.
This included checks such as:
Blood pressure
Blood glucose
Other basic vital assessments
Individuals with concerning results were directed for further consultation with the medical team.
3. Hepatitis B & C Testing
A separate testing station was established where beneficiaries were screened for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.
This allowed participants to know their status and receive appropriate guidance from the healthcare team.
Beneficiaries who were non-reactive for Hepatitis B were offered the first dose of the Hepatitis B vaccine as part of the outreach.
4. Medical Consultation
After screening, beneficiaries proceeded to medical doctors for individual consultations.
The doctors reviewed their screening results, listened to their health concerns, provided medical advice, and prescribed medications where necessary.
This ensured that the outreach went beyond screening by connecting beneficiaries with professional medical assessment and appropriate treatment.
5. Pharmacy & Medication Support
A pharmacy station was established to provide medications prescribed or indicated for common conditions identified during the outreach.
Medications distributed included, where clinically appropriate:
Antimalarials
Paracetamol
Flagyl
Folic acid
Cod-liver oil
Calcium supplements
Deworming medication
Antihypertensive medications
Anti-emetics
Gestid and other medications/support for gastric discomfort and reflux
Other commonly prescribed medications
Beneficiaries were also given appropriate guidance on the use of their medications.
6. Eye Care
Through our partnership with Eagle Eye Clinic Kaduna, eye-care professionals were available during the outreach.
The optometrists attended to beneficiaries and conducted eye assessments, giving elderly participants an opportunity to receive eye care as part of the broader health intervention.
Winnable Issues Update
Health & Livelihood Support for Widows
The third Circle meetup represented the first major implementation of Logos Circle Kaduna’s Health & Livelihood Support Winnable Issue.
The original goal was to reach 50 widows. However, through the commitment of Circle members and partner organizations, the outreach expanded beyond the initial target and ultimately catered to more than 100 individuals, including widows and elderly members of the community.
This represents more than twice the original target.
Partnerships That Made the Outreach Possible
The Circle successfully collaborated with:
DJFL Foundation – volunteer and operational support.
House of Abundance, Redeemed Christian Church of God – community and venue support.
Eagle Eye Clinic Kaduna – eye-care professionals and services.
Logos Circle Kano – support from the Steward and Circle members.
Logos Circle Kaduna members – planning, coordination, mobilization, and execution.
Despite limited external funding and support, the Circle demonstrated that committed local organizers can pool resources, partnerships, expertise, and volunteer time to deliver meaningful community impact.
Community Impact
The response from beneficiaries was overwhelmingly positive.
Many of the widows and elderly participants expressed deep appreciation for the initiative. For several beneficiaries, this was reportedly the first time a medical outreach of this nature had been organized within their community.
Beyond the healthcare services provided, the event created an opportunity for vulnerable community members to feel seen, supported, and valued.
The turnout also demonstrated that there is significant demand for accessible community healthcare and support services within underserved communities in Kaduna.
Next Steps
The Circle has agreed that the outreach should not end with this event.
1. Hepatitis B Vaccination – Second Dose
The Circle plans to return during the next outreach/meetup to provide the second dose of the Hepatitis B vaccination to beneficiaries who received the first dose and are due for it, following the appropriate vaccination schedule.
2. Widow & Elderly Empowerment
The next phase will place greater emphasis on the livelihood and empowerment component of the Winnable Issue.
The Circle plans to identify vulnerable widows and elderly beneficiaries who could benefit from targeted economic support.
This may include:
Small business grants
Support for existing micro-businesses
Basic financial literacy
Business mentorship
Digital and financial inclusion education
3. Continued Community Engagement
The Circle will continue building relationships with healthcare providers, community organizations, religious institutions, volunteers, and other local partners to expand future interventions.
What We Learned / To Improve / New Ideas
What Worked Well
The Circle successfully delivered a real community intervention despite limited external funding.
More than 100 people were reached, significantly exceeding the original target of 50.
Strong collaboration between Logos Circle Kaduna and Logos Circle Kano.
Partnerships with healthcare and community organizations significantly strengthened the outreach.
The multi-station approach allowed beneficiaries to move systematically from education to screening, consultation, medication, vaccination, and eye care.
Beneficiaries were highly appreciative and engaged throughout the programme.
Circle members demonstrated strong ownership and commitment to the Winnable Issue.
Areas for Improvement
Begin fundraising and partner engagement earlier for future interventions.
Develop a larger volunteer pool for registration, crowd management, documentation, and beneficiary coordination.
Improve beneficiary data collection to enable better follow-up.
Establish a structured monitoring system for individuals requiring continued medical care.
Secure additional medical supplies and funding to accommodate demand when turnout exceeds projections.
Strengthen documentation and impact measurement for future funding and partnership opportunities.
New Ideas
Based on the experience from this outreach, the Circle identified opportunities to:
Develop a recurring community health outreach programme.
Establish a beneficiary follow-up system.
Build a permanent network of volunteer healthcare professionals.
Create a health and livelihood database for future interventions.
Expand partnerships with clinics, pharmacies, laboratories, NGOs, and community organizations.
Combine healthcare outreach with financial inclusion and digital literacy programmes.
Closing Remarks
Logos Circle Kaduna #3 demonstrated what a community can accomplish when people are willing to act, even when resources are limited.
What began as a Winnable Issue to support 50 widows became an outreach that reached more than 100 people through the collective efforts of Circle members and partners.
The success of the initiative was not measured only by the number of people served, but by the relationships built, health concerns identified, vaccinations administered, medications provided, eyes examined, and most importantly the dignity and hope restored to members of the community.
A special shout-out goes to Logos, the Steward of Logos Circle Kano and its members, all Logos Circle Kaduna members, DJFL Foundation, House of Abundance RCCG, and Eagle Eye Clinic Kaduna for contributing to the success of this initiative.
The work continues.
From identifying a problem to taking action.
From a Winnable Issue to measurable impact.
Logos Circle Kaduna is building community, one action at a time.
