Logos Circle Berlin #3

We renewed efforts around organising Berlin Circles after the previous steward, Sev, moved out of the city. We met in a small group, but had a very interesting and fruitful discussion!

The Circles took place in Regenbogen Fabrik - industrial space squatted in the 70s and since turned into a community space collectively governed by active contributors.

Overview:

6 registered participants, 4 attendees

RegenbogenCafé, Fri 27.3., 16:00-18:00

Circle lead: Irena

Participants:

Civil (Leo) - a community organiser who recently organised a community dinner around Parallel Society in Lisbon. Temporarily based in Berlin, but nomadic.

Santiago - longterm Logos employee and contributor, one of the original initiators of Circles initiative, organiser of Parallel Society. Used to be based in Berlin, but now was just visiting.

Alv - ZK dev, based in Berlin. Interested in contributing to Logos tech stack, this was his first irl contact with the community.

Topics discussed:

The attendees were arriving gradually, so the introductions and discussions were focused on personal experiences, contribution goals and ideas around re-starting and advancing the local Berlin chapter.

It was very valuable to have Santiago join us, since he could provide insight into the beginnings or Circles and the initiative goals. There was also an interesting exchange of experiences between Civil and Santiago about Parallel Society, where they both took an active part.

When Alv joined, zk privacy tools and possible contribution pathways to Logos were discussed.

We then turned the discussion towards different ideas for winnable issues. Santiago shared his experiences with doing workshops for journalists teaching them about privacy tools. Irena shared previously explored idea about developing practical guides for parents around kids’ online privacy and agreed with Santiago to develop the idea further - combine her access to parents networks, Santiago’s practical workshop experience and Civil’s cultural storytelling abilities.

Next steps:

Develop the winnable issue further - first create a few ideas for the concept, check feasibility, possible connection to existing Berlin-based infrastructure and outline the mvp of the workshop. Given the difficulties parents usually have around time-management, the idea is to actively develop materials they could access async.

Organise the next Circles for the end of April, to already discuss next steps of the winnable issues.
