Attendance: 18 including two new members.

Steward: Julius Salman

1. Background

Since our founding meetup in June, we have worked to move from discussion to action. We planned and carried out our first outreach, a visit to Success Orphanage, Pwadzu, on 29 August. Having done that, we decided to hold this meetup to evaluate ourselves and prepare for more projects.

2. Introduction

The fourth LOGOS Circle Wukari meetup took place on 26 September 2026 at the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences building, Federal University Wukari. Eighteen members attended, including two new members who joined the Circle at this meetup.

The meeting focused on turning earlier planning into a firm schedule for the school outreach series under #OperationEducateAChild, and on reviewing where the Circle stands on its other commitments.

3. What We Accomplished

• Finalised the arrangements for which school to visit first in the school outreach series.

• Confirmed Mar-Mara Girls Secondary School, Wapang-Aku, as the first school, with the visit set for the first week of October 2026.

• Confirmed that all preparations for the visit are in place.

• Mapped out our goals for November and December, which include further school visits.

• Welcomed two new members into the Circle.

• Continued fundraising for mattresses for the children of Success Orphanage, Pwadzu.

4. School Outreach: Mar-Mara Girls Secondary School

The visit is designed around the needs of the girl child in Northern Nigeria. The programme will cover four areas:

• Early career guidance for the students.

• A lecture on hygiene practices.

• Teaching on how to recognise and deal with gender-based violence.

• A lecture on the Nigerian education system and the opportunities open to the female child.

Throughout the sessions, we will also speak about the particular challenges girls face in Northern Nigeria, alongside the opportunities available to them, so that students leave with both an honest picture of the obstacles and practical directions to follow.

5. Success Orphanage Mattress Fundraising

Fundraising for the purchase of mattresses for the children of Success Orphanage, Pwadzu, is ongoing. Members were encouraged to keep contributing and to share the appeal within their own networks. We will announce the delivery date once the target is reached.

6. Planning for November and December

The meeting mapped out our goals for the last two months of the year. We plan to visit two more schools: Government Day Secondary School, Pwadzu, in November and Unique Academy, Waapang-Aku, in December. We are still evaluating whether to replace the December visit with another programme, possibly an end-of-year event. The school visits continue the series that begins with Mar-Mara Girls Secondary School in October.

7. Next Steps

• Carry out the Mar-Mara Girls Secondary School outreach in the first week of October.

• Continue the mattress fundraising for Success Orphanage, Pwadzu.

• Prepare the November visit to Government Day Secondary School, Pwadzu, and decide whether the December programme will be the Unique Academy visit or an end-of-year event.

• Onboard the two new members into the Circle’s working channels.

• Prepare a report on the school visit for the next meetup.

8. Conclusion

Meetup 4.0 moved the Circle from planning to action. With the first school confirmed, preparations complete, and the year’s remaining months mapped out, the Circle is ready to begin its school outreach series in October.

Designing the programme around the needs of girls in Northern Nigeria is a thoughtful choice, and pairing an honest picture of the obstacles with practical directions is the right balance.

One suggestion, offered with care. The session on recognising and dealing with gender-based violence is important, but it’s also the kind of topic where a student might disclose something personal, during the session or quietly afterwards. It’s worth having someone trained present, a counsellor, a CDS member with relevant experience, or a local organisation that supports survivors, and knowing in advance where you’d refer a student who needs help. That way the circle is ready if it happens.

On the mattresses, keep going, that need is real and the matron was clear about it. I’m following up on the proposal you sent on my side too.

Looking forward to hearing how Mar-Mara goes
