Focus: Community healthcare support and assistance to vulnerable patients
The Logos Abeokuta Circle organized a medical outreach focused on understanding healthcare challenges within the community and providing direct support to individuals in need.
As part of the outreach, a team of 10 participants visited a health centre ( Abeokuta Health Centre) in Abeokuta City, where we interacted with patients and gained firsthand insight into some of the challenges they were experiencing.
During the visit, we encountered patients dealing with different medical conditions, including individuals with broken bones and other health challenges requiring continued treatment and financial support. We also presented gifts and essential items to patients as a gesture of care and encouragement.
Fundraising & Medical Bill Support
Prior to the outreach, the Logos Abeokuta Circle successfully raised approximately ₦500,000 to support patients who were unable to settle their hospital bills.
Our initial goal was to use the funds to clear the medical bills of approximately five patients. However, due to the cost of treatment and the outstanding bills involved, we were able to fully settle the bills of two patients.
Although this provided meaningful relief to the beneficiaries, several other patients still require financial assistance to continue their treatment.
Challenges Identified
The outreach revealed several challenges affecting patients within the community, including:
- Difficulty paying hospital and treatment bills.
- Patients requiring continued medical care after injuries and other conditions.
- Limited financial support for vulnerable patients.
- The need for better coordination between patients, donors, healthcare providers, and volunteers.
- Limited systems for tracking and documenting patients requiring medical assistance.
- Proposed Technology Solution
Following the outreach, the Logos Abeokuta Circle has begun working on a technology-driven solution to help address some of these challenges.
We are currently at the initial stage of building a healthcare support application designed to connect verified patients in need with donors, volunteers, healthcare professionals, and supporting organizations.
The proposed application will help facilitate the documentation of medical cases, verification of beneficiaries, coordination of donations, and tracking of support provided.
Our vision is to develop a sustainable platform that can make healthcare assistance more transparent, organized, and accessible to people who need it.
- Funding Requirement
We are currently seeking approximately $500 in additional funding to continue supporting identified patients and advance the development of the healthcare support application.
The funds will be used to:
- Support patients with outstanding hospital bills.
- Provide essential items to vulnerable patients.
- Conduct follow-up community healthcare activities.
- Advance the development of the healthcare support application.
- Improve patient documentation and verification.
- Strengthen partnerships with healthcare providers and community organizations.

The outreach provided an opportunity for the Logos Abeokuta Circle to move beyond discussions and directly engage with people experiencing healthcare challenges.
With approximately ₦500,000 raised before the outreach, we were able to clear the hospital bills of two patients and provide gifts and support to other patients at the health centre.
The experience also helped us identify an opportunity to combine community-driven humanitarian support with technology to create a more sustainable approach to healthcare assistance.

Conclusion
The Logos Abeokuta medical outreach was an impactful community engagement that allowed us to better understand the healthcare challenges faced by vulnerable individuals.
Although our initial goal was to clear the bills of five patients, we were able to successfully settle the bills of two patients with the funds raised. The outreach further demonstrated the significant need for continued medical and financial support.
We believe that with additional funding, partnerships, and the development of our proposed healthcare support application, we can extend our impact to more patients and build a sustainable system for connecting people in need with the support they require.
