🚀 New λPrize: LP-0026, Forum App ($5,500)

Hello all, I’m excited to announce that a new Lambda Prize was launched, and people have already started to submit their work!
Builder or forum user, get involved! This one is weighted towards meaningful use, so what people can achieve uniquely on your forum is important.

The Problem

Social media tracks you. Your words, your scroll speed, view time. Interacting with a non-mainstream post can be confronting, and thanks to ip tracking, even posting with a random account can grow your digital twin. Considering use of this by the gov with overreach is a frightening thought and in some countries, already a reality…

We can do better! :flexed_biceps:

100% of people reading this are familiar with basic forum functionality ( #selectionBias)

LP-0026 will be rewarded to one stand-out forum. It is about the impact your forum can achieve.

When you design your forum app you should ask, what features will let groups of people thrive and create meaningful impact for their communities? And as always: privacy is important (see spec linked below).

When AI is used effectively, developing an application becomes much faster, and it is the attention to detail and feature choice that become points of differentiation. What features did you choose to add (or leave out)? The reasons behind your choices are what matters.
Then of course it’s about meaningful adoption and use of the application. Who benefits and how? What real world impact can be verified? This is key.

Details :nut_and_bolt:

Total prize: $5,500
Evaluation: Best submission to meet all the criteria wins

Forumer took this design and feature directions as core improvements.

Here’s a small story behind it’s development.

I mainly brainstormed before building this , listed out all the issues we have in our current forum out there, research on how forum over browsers could expose users privacy , considered researching on what a good and useful forum looks like ?? and what people actually need.

After all these steps above we started breaking down the findings into essential features and task and started the developments step by step and test by test.
and we ended up with this beautiful app Forumer with it’s stable version in basecamp.

Honestly , I didn’t went fully with AI and vibecoding the project end to end but what i instead decided was to keep the control to myself of my codebase so that i can take this learn along and be aware what’s actually happening BTS. it was a bit time consuming but i personally think it is worth it , if we consider it as a long term and scalable project.

Anyone can try now by adding this link to their Package Repositories - https://raw.githubusercontent.com/bristinWild/forumer-catalog/main/logos-repo.json

and if anyone wants to know more about Forumer , feel free to refer to the demo - https://youtu.be/Tc-MUpDcn7M

BTW submission PR is open and accessible over - Solution: LP-0026 - Forumer: a private, serverless forum for Logos Basecamp by bristinWild · Pull Request #179 · logos-co/lambda-prize · GitHub

Lastly , Feedbacks are always welcome.

Thank you

Hi all!

Logos Forum, built for LP-0026, has been running on testnet v0.3 since day one.

Try it: Basecamp → Settings → Package Repositories → add
raw.githubusercontent.com/edenbd1/logos-forum-catalog/main/logos-repo.json
then Package Manager → Social → Logos Forum. Delivery and Storage come from the official catalog.

What it does:

  • no server: posts travel over Logos Delivery, history comes back from store nodes and peers
  • post as your account, as an alias, or anonymously with a fresh key; every post is signed and checked
  • offline? posts wait in an outbox and go out when you reconnect
  • optional history snapshots over Logos Storage, fetched privately over Mix

What it’s used for right now: builders asking for help, testnet LGO for newcomers (post in the faucet topic, get LGO), and testnet reboot notes. An always-on node keeps history available, and it’s also how we caught two delivery_module bugs, now reported upstream (logos-delivery-module #165 and #164).

Thanks @Bristin and @edenbd1 for your forum submissions!
Great to see the different design approaches :ok_hand:

Have you tried to introduce your tool to existing groups for discussion? Could be a Logos Circle, or local political or advocacy group interested in trying your app?

Eden, great to see your app built for windows too.
PS. for your logos-repo.json link text in your msg above, consider prefixing with https:// (basecamp doesn’t like not having it)

Bristin, very tech themed and feature rich.
Consider a copy paste for the seed phrase at account creation? a bit of an entry barrier (or ordinary people might skip)

Thanks @JamesZaki , noted your suggestion . it is scheduled for the next version now.

I’m introducing Forumer to the community in X and Discord. I will be there in Field Station organised by Logos and Zu-grama , so i’m planning to share Forumer over there and onboard new users.

Currently - brainstorming new features and actively seeking feedbacks from the users to work on.

Thanks @JamesZaki! Link fixed in my post above, now with https://.

On Windows: that was a user’s report posted in the forum itself, not something we ship. We build and test for macOS (Apple silicon) and Linux, the two platforms Basecamp releases for, so I’d rather not claim Windows until we’ve run it there.

On groups: honestly, not yet beyond this forum and the Discord. What fits a group best is the private forum: an invite link, posts sealed to the members, nothing on a server. So the plan is to offer that to a Logos Circle for its own coordination, and to a French-speaking group as a real-world test, and to set it up with the organiser on a call rather than drop a link. If any Circle organiser reads this and wants to try it, reply here or DM me.

Since my first post: private forums, images on Logos Storage, reactions, search, and a passphrase vault for keys, all in 0.3.7 from the same catalog.
