Participants
The Circle was attended by 7 participants from within Ede. They are primarily professionals interested in the decentralized web, and students from one of the universities in the state.
Overview
This was our first Circle. Following the guidance received during our onboarding call with Amelia and Pascal, we moved into action to address a pressing issue within our community.
We identified the poor academic performance of learners and educators in public primary schools, which is largely due to the non-availability of government funding and inadequate infrastructure. For several months, the local government had been unable to provide basic support to schools in the area.
After deliberations, we selected Baptist Practicing Primary School, which is close to us, as the focus for our first outreach.
Execution
Because the school calendar was winding down, we needed to act quickly. After several deliberations with the school principal and teachers, we secured Monday, July 6, 2026, a date that was convenient for both the school and our Circle members.
We provided books and writing materials for each learner, and a small welfare package for all educators.
We also held short talk sessions where some Circle members spoke on:
1. Personal Hygiene
2. Striving for a Great Career
3. Being Good Citizens and Contributing to Nation Building
Though time was short, we also encouraged the educators to keep doing their best. It was a great time of impact.
Challenges
1. Logistics: Transportation of books, writing materials, and welfare packages to the school was difficult due to limited vehicles and distance within Ede.
2. Funding: As a new Circle, we had limited funds. Providing materials for all learners and gifts for educators stretched our available resources.
3. Scheduling a Date: Getting a convenient date was challenging due to the school’s end-of-term activities and the tight schedules of Circle members.
Solutions / Proposal
1. Logistics: For future outreaches, we propose partnering with local transport services and requesting in-kind donations from members who own vehicles to ease the movement of materials.
2. Funding: We propose creating a Circle donation/funding plan where members contribute monthly. We will also explore partnerships with local businesses and organizations to sponsor future projects.
3. Scheduling: We propose to engage school authorities at least 3-4 weeks in advance and align our outreach calendar with the school term to avoid clashes.
Conclusion
Despite being our first Circle, the outreach to Baptist Practicing Primary School was a great success. We were able to put smiles on the faces of learners and educators, while also inspiring them toward excellence and community responsibility.
As Logos Circle Ede, we are encouraged and eagerly anticipate the next community issue we will address. We remain committed to being agents of positive change, and we believe that with consistent effort, partnership, and God’s grace, we will achieve even greater impact in Ede and beyond.
