Following our first session’s needs assessment, this Circle moved from discussion to field action
The problem we found
In Delhi, an estimated 1000-1500 children fall through the gaps of formal schooling - dropouts, denied admissions, and quality gaps that leave enrolled children unable to read at grade level. The system failed them quietly, the way systems do.
A small group of volunteers has been running tuition classes for these children in the open air - literally under a tree. No institution, no funding, no shelter when it rains. Just people teaching, because someone had to
This isn’t a problem waiting for a solution - it’s a parallel institution that already exists, built by the people closest to the problem. It just needs to survive and grow.
Session Highlight:
The Circle visited the site, sat in on classes, and spent time with the volunteers and children. We conducted a small supplies drive and distributed notebooks and learning materials to the children.
Challenges or Open Questions
- No fixed tutor roster, classes depend on individual volunteer availability.
- No shelter during bad weather (monsoon will interrupt classes).
- No attendance or learning-progress tracking for the children.
- One-off supply drives are not sustainable; a recurring pipeline is needed.
- The children largely have no phones or computers, beneficiaries are offline, so any Logos tooling must serve the coordination layer (tutors, volunteers, donors) around them
Solutions, Ideas, and Proposals:
Formalise a volunteer tutor roster with a fixed weekly schedule. Introduce a simple attendance and learning-progress tracker per child. Convert giveaways into a recurring, community-funded supplies pipeline. Identify a monsoon-proof teaching space (community hall / shared premises)
Action Items / Next Steps
Fix a weekly/bi-monthly slot with the volunteer teachers that the Circle supports consistently. Write up the needs-assessment findings as a baseline document. Recruit 2–3 committed tutors/backups from Circle meetups.
What we’ve done so far
Session 1: Assessment & First intervention. We visited the site, sat in on the classes, and spoke with the volunteer teachers and the children. We documented the core problems: irregular supplies, no fixed tutor roster, no shelter in bad weather, and no way of tracking whether any child is actually progressing. We ran a supplies drive and distributed notebooks and learning materials to the children

Within 6 months, help this informal tuition group become a stable community learning hub - with consistent supplies, a reliable volunteer tutor roster, a fixed weekly schedule, and basic learning-progress tracking for ~20 children

Planned Follow-Up Actions
Formalise tutor roster and weekly schedule before the next Circle meeting. Begin child-level progress tracking. Define a fundraising model with for a supplies pipeline.
Things That Worked Well
Moving from assessment to action within two sessions kept momentum and member engagement high. The community’s existing self-organised effort gave us a strong foundation, we are strengthening something real.
Areas for Improvement: Clearer division of responsibilities among Circle members between sessions along with a fixed timetable
